Bachelor of Education

A Bachelor of Education (BEd) is a four-year (earlier two years) undergraduate professional degree which prepares students for work as a teacher in schools. This course imparts and emphasizes the principles and methodology of teaching, it imparts Educational Psychology, Guidance and Counselling, Educational Evaluation and Assessment, Culture and Human Values, and so on. In some states, there is Licentiate in Teaching (L.T.), which is considered equivalent to the BEd. The BEd degree is mandatory for teaching at the secondary (classes 6 to 10) and higher secondary (10+2 or classes 11 and 12). The duration of the course will be four years from session 2020-21 as per NCTE Regulations, 2019 so far it was two years. The National Council for Teacher Education is the statutory body that regulates teacher training courses in India.

Eligibility:-

The minimum qualification required for entry into BEd course is Bachelor of Arts (B.A), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) from a recognized university with at least 50% marks, however, these marks vary from college to college.

Admission Process:-

Usually, entrance tests are conducted by the government at both state and central level to give admission in B. Ed. Such as Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted at all India level by the central government. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the UP government, Telangana State Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the Telangana government, Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the Odisha government, Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the Kerala government.
