Bachelor of Law/LLB

The LLB is an abbreviation of the Latin ‘Legum Baccalaureus’ which means Bachelor of Laws degree. Bachelor of LAW is an undergraduate degree. In India there are two courses available for Degree in Law first is Bachelor of LAW course duration is three years. This course is for those who have already a bachelor’s degree in any of the streams from a recognized university. The Second course is available for those who have just passed 10+2 and want to pursue Law. This course is called an Integrated Law course; the duration of this course is five years. It is integrated in the sense that it includes Law degree with a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Social Work, etc. Any profession in the field of Law is considered quite decorated and lucrative; either it is Judge, Advocate, or Legal adviser.

Eligibility criteria:-

As has been mentioned above two courses are available for Degree in Law, Three-year course and five-year course.

  1. Eligibility for a three-year course is a Bachelor’s degree in any stream; any stream means it may be a bachelor’s in Arts, Science, BBA, BCA, etc.
  2. Eligibility for a five-year course is 10+2 pass in any steam, it may be Science, Arts or Commerce.
  3. There are few colleges which seek minimum aggregate marks in both graduation and 10+2 to pursue three-years and five-year course respectively. These aggregate marks vary from college to college which may be between 50% to 60%.

Admission Process:-

Usually, the entrance test is conducted like The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) to give admission in different colleges of India. Apart from this, there are few colleges that give admission in their colleges based on merit that is marks obtained in 10+2 or in graduation to pursue a five-year course or three-year course respectively, like SRM University.

The syllabus of LLB has been divided into two parts in the five-year course, first part includes the Bachelor’s degree, opted discipline with Bachelor of law, it may be a bachelor of arts, science, commerce, BBA, BCA, etc. This is of two years while the rest three years are for a bachelor of law.
